Episode details

Happy Monday! Welcome back to Acting Class Daily and Class Three of The Elysium Aesthetic. We begin each month with a week one tone-setter. A perspective-shaper for the tools and practices we’ll be covering over the next three weeks in each of our three areas of lifelong growth: artistry, instrument and craft.

Your imagination is the core of your talent as an actor.

Your ability to believe in what’s imaginary - to experience it - as if it were real.

For it to inspire simple confidence. The ease of trust.

We all have imaginations … audience members, fellow actors, we all do.

But the ability to surrender, to accept the truth of it, to believe it so darn obviously that it feels undeniable … that is a professional separator.

What happens when there are no breaks in your imagination?

Where will you take audiences when you can step onto any stage, in front of any actor, in any imaginative world, with any direction given to you … and believe so fully that you truly live?

This week we lay the groundwork for a month of imaginative celebration … knowing, growing, accessing and applying the professional separator of your acting talent, your Actor’s Faith.

Put It Up On The Wall!

We had a tradition of capturing quotes on the Elysium walls. The torch has now been passed to the digital realm. We’ll use this space to highlight quotes and translate those terms we tend to throw around.

Glossary Gigantum

ACTOR’S FAITH; the ability to experience what is imaginary as if it was real.

We all have imaginations, but an ability to taste circumstances, costumes, sets, lines, relationships, bodies … imaginative worlds … as real. To live in them.

That is your talent as an actor.

Your ability to believe, coupled with what you know about this world (your empathy), separates you from any actor who has ever lived.

How you believe … how fully, how freely, how simply and obviously … speaks to the depths of your acting talent and gifts transcendence - tastes beyond the range of normal experience - to your audience.

Today’s Quote

'‘I want to believe.”

Sample the ‘stacks.

In honor of our friends at The Sample (who knew the coolest newsletters to send me … and here we are today!) each Monday I’ll highlight a Substacker that’s tickling the tastebuds:
