Welcome to Acting Class Daily. Happy Tuesday! Each week we make a Kindred Connection with new members of our community - learning about formative moments, experiencing a few of their favorite things, tasting their artistic heart, and getting a look into their very soul.
#KindredConnect … Will August
The main thing about me is: I show up. I was in my 21st school when I was 21 years old. I survived because I learned that once you show up for something, the rest naturally follow. Sure you have to work like a dog. But that’s the easy part. I played D-1 basketball, because I showed up for the team in 7th grade. I consult with charities and foundations now, because I showed up for some paralyzed folks who needed a hand. The story of my whole life, is that I show up.

Open Windows
They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Here’s an unguarded, unedited, uninterrupted minute with the windows open.
My Artistic Heart
Revealing the truest, rawest taste of your creative soul through any form of live expression.
My Elysium Artist
The “reputational quote” you’ll earn when you’ve reached your potential.
Will was completely present with every scene partner in any circumstance. The eye and the Hurricane.
What about Elysium feels kindred in spirit to the artist you are today?
I need. I need real work as an actor. I need to express myself fiercely. I need to be safe. I need to find a way. I need to breathe. I need you. I need it. I need.

What role would you most like to live-through … and why?
Let’s say Rocky. But a real, conscious Rocky, who is aware of his own condition. He loves, and is generous as best he can. But he has a dark side his kids will never know. His wife does.
Tell us about a life-shaping moment.
Law school is 3 grinding years of bullshit. I graduated broke and in deep debt. After my last and my last law school exam, before drinking a lot of beer, I went for a run through Boston streets. I meant to go easy, but something grabbed my gut, and by the end, I could hardly breath, exhausted and doubled-over in pain. I stumbled to a nearby stoop. Then . . . as I caught my breath, I looked up. Beautiful, puffy clouds in a blue sky. A peace came over me that was new – never felt it before. It shaped my life.
Share a moment when you experienced the best of yourself as an artist.
Neil Simon's "Chapter Two" is a tricky piece. If you play it with all your heart and soul, it’s funny and fulfilling. If you don’t, it flops. In a workshop, I played George to an audience of about 100 professional, working actors and industry people. Spiderman was there. Yes, the Spiderman. Petrified, I did a short version of Williamson backstage. I stepped through the threshold. We brought the house down. By the time I was halfway through, if I made the smallest facial expression – the audience roared. I roared.
I felt my insides rise with joy. We set the night on fire.
Where have you travelled … and most want to travel?
Specifically, I've traveled to a state of consciousness that is truly aware - if only for a moment, that is infinite. Cha. Cha. Cha. Wu tang clan. Ku Klux Klan. Cambodia and the Mekong river. All those bodybags. I want to traverse the El Camino in North Spain, and the space inside my headless self.
What does your perfect day-off look like?
This question seeks perfection. A difficult goal. The older I get, the more I think sex is perfect. Sure, I'd like to do some cage fighting with my friends, so I could get a fun workout, so I could eat without guilt, so I have lots of energy - for great sex. A day when I'm loved and grateful for it. My perfect day off.
Did you know…?
Well, I was in the boxing ring with Evander Holyfield. Tyson, you may recall, bit his ear off. My friend who set it up called out: “Take it easy on him, August” At that moment, Evander looked me in the eye with an expression that makes me shudder as I write this.
But don’t worry, my friend - Evander’s ok.
