Join our live caller-driven show on Callin with any question, any discovery, any anything you face as an actor … we want to know about it, chat about it, turn it into a trampoline.
Here’s a meaningful moment from last week’s episode. Send a moment that mattered to you, along with any feedback to actingclassdaily@substack.com
“that golden thread that should infuse everything…”
… type-casting is something that's robbed of potential, of possibility. It's blind to the ability right there in front of a person.
Whether that's you yourself or somebody judging you.
This type casting mentality … it's bound to represent other artists’ truths.
When we accept that on ourselves (this type-casting mentality) we see ourselves as a cliche. We see ourselves as a cliche.
We leave behind that lonely, essential beauty - (the) truth of what we know - that sliver, that core, that golden thread that should infuse everything someone is asking from us …
We leave that behind and we chase after the idea of the thing.
What's supposed to be right …
